The Library.

Today in my teenage angst, I decided that the library is a perfectly perfect thing to blog about. A week ago I was given a job as a library page. After having to give up on my last pressure and emotional filled - yet dream oriented - job after only two days, I hoped this would be a lot more my speed. That speed being extraordinarily slow and non-committal. I have worked seven shifts (each averaging around three hours) and I love it. I was informed early on that my mp3 player and cell phone were not to be present during my work time which freaked me out a bit, but no matter, one shift without and I didn't even miss them.

As you might guess, you can learn a lot the library. My job doesn't really permit me to look beyond the spines of books, so I've thus far been limited in any in-depth research oriented learning. I have however learned that the world of graphic novels - of which my entire experience rests in the OC and Atomic County - is vast and seem to be the most popular thing currently in the literary world. We have graphic novels for children, youth and adults; all equally popular. We have Disney graphic novels, Manga graphic novels, CSI graphic novels. Do you have an interest? It's been put into a graphic novel. These are particularly tedious to shelve, which is the basis of my job; this tedium makes me not their biggest fan but I can't deny their popularity and subsequent awesomeness.

Here, for your viewing pleasure is a 3 min short of Atomic County. If you're a fan of the OC, this should make you pretty happy. If you're not, watch it anyway and know that I'm probably shelving a hundred of these in book form.

Scratch that.

Scratch any wonderings about my dream job. Just forget I ever mentioned it. Forget everything even related to me having an exciting new job. Just scratch it.

The fruition of my dreams.

Thursday, in my teenage angst, I was offered my dream job. Friday, in my teenage angst, and amidst the flowers I was dealing with for Valentine's Day, at my sister's flower shop, I accepted the offer. Tuesday, despite my teenage angst, will be my first day.

Wish me luck. More on what the actual job to come.

The Souperbowl - Part II

We love our Superbowl Sundays. Once, back when Rosie O'Donnell, she talked about how she was going to buy a new big screen for her Superbowl party. We don't really go that far. Instead, like I stated yesterday, we have Soup Bowls and watch the game and do other stuff to keep us occupied in between plays. Today I plan avidly watch the game as well as knit an over-due hat for a friend, write some Valentines, address some Valentines that need to be sent and move back upstairs - due to the fact that I had to move downstairs for reasons that are to follow.

My dad had to go into seclusion this weekend due to his radioactive state. My friend Ashley named him Radioactive Dad. I appreciated this. He has/had (or so we hope) thyroid cancer. Treatment required him to take some pills and down this drink that made him effectively radioactive. All I could think about was the Chrysalids and my future children. For the Superbowl, and our annual Souperbowl Party, he came out of his isolation and joined us downstairs. So far so good.

Here's further update on my soup which was very spicy but nonetheless tasty. You'll also see the soup bowls that we annually purchase at Safeway - which, as an aside, does not exist in the east.

Rousseau really wanted to get in on the action.

We're cheering for the Packers and I was pretty psyched about the awesome interception toward the end of the first quarter.

Now halfway through the fourth quarter, we did have an eleven point lead but the Steelers just scored and is going for two. Our lead is only three points. Stupid two point conversions. BAH! Our lead has increased to six points with 2.06 to go!!! Steelers have the ball. I'm chanting "D-fense! D-fense!" The ball is thrown! The play is incomplete and TURNED OVER!!!!!! THE GAME IS OVER!!! WE'VE WON!!!!!

What a great game.

The Souperbowl.

The Superbowl is one of my favorite days of the year. I'm a legitimate football fan. I love CFL, I love NFL more and I love College ball most. So when it comes time for the Superbowl I am psyched. It is such an American tradition and so meaningful for the city and team that wins. Last year, the New Orleans Saints won the Superbowl. Can you even imagine what that win would have meant for that broken beyond broken city? They didn't even place in the playoffs this year. I think that win came exactly when it needed to.

So anyway, my family has this tradition of having Soup Bowls on Superbowl Sunday. This year I wanted nothing more than a Carrot Curry soup. So I made it happen.

First I got slapped in the face by an onion. It has never been that bad before. I actually had to get my mom to finish chopping it. And then I made her take this picture.

This is the finished product. I was too caught up in the process to document. The coconut milk will be added tomorrow before it is served. It'll also take down the heat; which is a little overwhelming right now.

This is the key to a good soup. A food processor. I'm pretty well thought it was going to be a terrible experience but besides its abhorrent weight - which is actually amazing. It wasn't a pain to use or clean!

And this, my friends is the splendidly clean kitchen only moments after I finished the soup. I love this most of all. I'm sure I'll love the soup more than this when I'm actually eating it tomorrow but for right now, this is it.

Oh, I'd also like to note that all of this was done in the midst of having a text-convo with Suzy. I am a multi-tasking marvel. And though studies state that multi-tasking makes you dumber by splitting your focus and thus reducing your powers of logic and deduction. What-ever. I consider it a sort of super power.

More on our fantastical family Souper-Bowl Partay-hey to come . . .

Overwhelming Phenomenons.

Today in my teenage angst, I was overwhelmed by a certain phenomenon that has been pleasantly put on television for our entertainment. There are some phenomenons - social or otherwise - that absolutely astound me. Amelia Earhart, for example, is just baffling. How - I repeat HOW did she just disappear!?

This morning, I turned on the television expecting to watch my daily CSI episode on SPIKE TV. For some reason they decided to strip me of this wonderful daily ritual by showing a Gangland marathon. I don't know what demographic they were aiming for with that. So instead I turned to TLC. Here I found something shocking.

There is a show, maybe you already know about this, called "I didn't know I was pregnant." This show does reenactments of the days leading up to a the birth of an unexpected child. The reenactments are something to behold but that's not what I'm amazed by. These women have none of the regular symptoms of pregnancy. No weight gain, no morning sickness, no cravings . . . nothing. By the time these babies are born they are generally underdeveloped; and how could they not be? But for the most part, these babies end up being healthy, happy, fully developed little humans. All of the moms say that this baby is an absolute gift, no matter how unexpected. Which is amazing and wonderful. I think this is a feat of the human body but mostly I just don't get it.

Anybody able to explain this phenomenon of the body?

Lucky Louie.

Everyone has a thing. My sister's thing is being naturally awesome at all things creative. My mom's thing is ruling at her job and falling asleep at 8pm. We love her for it. Suzy's thing is also all things creative but also being the queen of the bloggersphere. My thing is winning. Winning, winning, winning!!!

Tuesday, in my teenage angst this once again was proven to be my reality. What an awesome reality.

So I was hanging out in Chapters with Suzy. We started out in the children's section. We like our board books. We found some brilliance and then we found some that were not so brilliant. Then we moved to the discount book sections and decided that judging books by their covers is definitely more worth it than not. Unless its a classic - because then its more likely than not to have an unfortunate cover because of its mass production. We didn't decide that part, I just said it.

Then I found this card that said if I bought a greeting card I would get 10, 20, 30, 50 or 100% off my purchase. By this point I had gathered a number of ridiculous things to buy that I by no means needed. It didn't matter how much I got off my purchase I was going to buy it all anyway. But what do you know, my friends, I get to the till and I'm receiving a 100% discount off my purchase! What a thrill. She simply said to me, "You're good to go." And I walked away with 33 dollars worth of awesome, needless merchandise.

These pictures don't include the DIY iPod speakers that you're meant to color yourself. I sent them home with Suzy so she could decorate them for me. What a lucky day.
